We’ve created the tables below to help you understand what to look for when your Miele coffee maker starts to give you problems. Unless the issue is really serious, there is every chance that you’ll be able to fix it on your own. So, start with finding the symptom or the message your coffee maker is displaying in the table below, then try the suggested troubleshooting tips and hints.

Miele CVA 620 coffee maker troubleshooting

Fresh water?This is a reminder to fill the water container with fresh water.
Rinsing CycleThe brew unit needs to be lubricated.Lubricate the brew unit.
Waste unit. miss.The waste unit is not correctly positioned or is missing. The machine is blocked.Reposition the waste unit correctly.

Miele CVA 4062 coffee maker troubleshooting

Possible faultSolution
Is the lighting turned off?- See "Settings - Lighting".
If not, the lighting is defective. Contact Miele.
- The main switch is turned to "0".- Turn the main switch to T.
- The plug is not inserted into the socket correctly.- Plug the machine in.
- The fuse has blown or is defective.- If the fuse has blown contact Miele's Technical Service Department.
- Is the machine programmed to switch off after a programmed time?- The machine goes into standby mode when not used for a programmed time. See "Settings - Timer - Switching off after".
- There could be pebbles within the coffee beans. The unit shuts off after 20 secs, to avoid damage.- Contact Miele's Technical Service Department.
- Is the machine plugged in?- Plug in the machine.
The System Lock is activated.See "Settings - System Lock*.
The contrast or brightness of the displays are too low / high.Adjust the display contrast / brightness. See "Settings - Display".
The main dispenser connector cap is not positioned correctly, see "Guide to the machine - Interior view).Lubricate the cap with the supplied silicone grease.
The dispenser is clogged.See "Cleaning and Care".
The container needs to be cleaned.See "Cleaning and Care".
There could be pebbles within the coffee beans.- Turn off the unit immediately.
- Contact the Miele's Tech. Service if the bean container is not empty. Otherwise fill the container with fresh beans.
The grind control is set too coarse.Set the grind control slide to a finer grind.
The grind control is set too fine.Set the grind control slide to a coarser grind.
- Were the supply lines and cup pre-heated?- The smaller the cup, the more important it is to pre-heat.
- The temperature is set too low.- Check on what temperature range the coffee type is set.
- Check if the brew unit is clogged.- Clean the brew unit.
- The grind control is set to the finest or the amount of coffee is set to the maximum.- Adjust the grind control slide to a different position, or the amount of coffee more or less.
- The process is timed, the process might need so long, there is no time for brewing any more.
- Check if all containers are properly inserted.See "Installation Instructions".
- The beans may have gotten stuck.- Pull the bean container out and push it back in.
- The ground coffee funnel cover was opened and closed and a preparation with ground coffee was selected but no ground coffee was inserted.
The coffee system switches automatically back to bean use after preparation.
- The metal contacts are soiled or wet.- Clean and dry the contacts.
- Check if the drip tray is inserted correctly.- Insert the drip tray as described in "Cleaning and Care - Drip tray”.
- Turn the machine off and on again with the main switch.
- If the message still appears contact Technical Service.
This is not a fault.This is residual water from the cleaning process.
- If the grind setting is too coarse, this can result in too much coffee water in the waste unit.- Adjust the grind setting and/or amount of coffee.
- The main dispenser cap is not positioned correctly.- Lubricate the cap with the supplied silicone grease.
- If the cap is faulty, replace it with the spare part supplied.
- The brew unit is not in the correct position.- Close the door. The brew unit automatically gets into the correct position.
- The door was opened during grinding or brewing.
- Check if the grind setting is too coarse or too fine.- Adjust the grind setting.
- Check what temperature range the coffee type is set. If the temperature is too high, there are black areas in the crema.- Lower the temperature and amount of ground coffee. See "Settings".
- Some coffee types produce too much crema when the coffee / espresso temperature is set to the maximum and the amount of ground coffee is too much.- The coffee is not fresh enough.
- The coffee is unsuitable for use in this machine.
- The coffee dispensers are set too high.
No water is dispensed.- The water tank is not inserted properly. Take it out and reinsert correctly.
- The water tank was not filled correctly during the descaling process. Fill the water tank up to the correct mark.
- If the message still appears contact Technical Service.
Some coffee types produce too much crema when the coffee / espresso temperature is set to the maximum and the amount of ground coffee is too much.Lower the temperature and amount of coffee.
Replace the cap with the spare part supplied.Lubricate the cap of the main dispenser with the supplied silicone grease.

Miele CVA 6805 coffee maker troubleshooting

The lighting does not come on when the coffee system is turned on.The lighting has been turned off.
■ Turn on the lighting (see ’Settings - Lighting").
The lighting is defective.
■ Contact Technical Service.
The display remains dark when the coffee system is turned on using the On/ Off sensor ©.The On/Off sensor © was not touched long enough.
■ Touch the depression in the On/Off sensor © for at least 3 seconds.
The plug is not properly plugged into the electrical outlet. ■ Insert the plug into the electrical outlet.
The circuit breaker has tripped due to a problem with the coffee system, the electricity supply or another device.
■ Unplug the coffee system.
■ Contact a qualified electrician or Miele Technical Service for assistance.
The coffee system turns off suddenly.The programmed turn-off time has been reached.
■ If desired, set a new turn-off time (see "Settings - Timers").
The plug is not properly plugged into the electrical outlet. ■ Insert the plug into the electrical outlet.
The coffee system is on. The lighting turns off suddenly.If more than 10 minutes have passed since the coffee system was last used, the lighting automatically turns off.
The sensor buttons do not respond. The coffee system can no longer be operated.There is an internal malfunction.
■ Open the front door of the coffee system. The current process is stopped.
■ Unplug the coffee system.
The coffee system does not turn on at the programmed time even though "Turn on at" is activated.System lock is activated.
■ Deactivate system lock (see "Settings - System lock”).
No days of the week have been selected.
■ Check the timer settings and adjust if necessary (see "Settings - Timers").
The coffee system was not used after being automatically turned on three times in a row (see "Settings - Timers").
■ Turn the system on and prepare a drink.
The displayed messages are difficult to read.The brightness of the display is set too low.
■ Adjust this setting (see "Settings - Display brightness").
After the coffee system has been turned on, the message "Fill and insert water tank" appears although the tank is full and inserted. The system does not rinse.There is limescale build-up in the coffee system.
■ Touch the On/Off sensor © to turn off the coffee system. Wait for approx. 1 hour.
■ Turn the system on again. As soon as "Preheating phase" appears, touch "Maintenance" (bottom right) and select "Descale unit".
■ Descale the coffee system. You may need to repeat the descaling process.
The milk pipework is being rinsed but no rinse water comes out of the main dispenser. The message "Fill and insert water tank is displayed.The milk pipework or the air intake hose is clogged.
■ Follow the instructions in chapter "Cleaning clogged milk pipework".
No milk or milk froth comes out of the main dispenser.The milk pipework or the air intake hose is clogged.
■ Follow the instructions in chapter "Cleaning clogged milk pipework".
The display shows the message "Fill and insert milk container" although the milk container is full and in place.The milk container lid may be soiled, causing the sensors to malfunction.
■ Thoroughly clean the lid and milk container (see "Cleaning clogged milk pipework").
’Empty drip tray" appears in the display even though the drip tray is empty.The drip tray is not inserted correctly.
■ Slide the drip tray all the way into the unit.
The drip tray's sensors are not working properly.
■ Touch the On/Off sensor © to turn off the coffee system.
The metal contacts are dirty.
■ Clean and dry the contacts thoroughly (see "Cleaning and care - Drip tray").
The front door cannot be closed.The containers are not fully inserted. ■ Check the containers.
The door hinges are not aligned correctly.
■ Adjust the door hinges (see "Installation - Adjusting the door hinges").
The coffee system suddenly stopped preparing a beverage.If the water tank is emptied during beverage preparation, the display will show the message "Continue preparation? yes / no" after the water tank has been refilled and inserted. If you do not confirm this message with "yes" within 5 minutes, the system will stop preparing the beverage.
The plumbed water intake is malfunctioning.
■ Check for kinks in the water intake hose and make sure that the water shut-off valve is open all the way.
The water tank ran empty during beverage preparation, but "Plumbed water connection - on" is selected and the coffee system is not connected to a plumbed water supply.
■ Check the plumbed water supply settings (see "Settings - Plumbed water connection").
"Please wait" or "Preheating phase" is always on. No beverages can be prepared.It is possible that "Plumbed water connection - on" is selected but the coffee system is not connected to a plumbed water supply.
■ Fill the water tank.
■ Then check the plumbed water supply settings (see "Settings - Plumbed water connection").
The cup or glass being used is repeatedly not recognized by the automatic dispenser adjustment. The main dispenser moves to the rim of the cup and triggers the cup protection shut- off.■ Use only cups or glasses which can be recognized by the automatic dispenser adjustment.
The automatic dispenser adjustment is malfunctioning.
■ Touch the On/Off sensor © to turn off the coffee system. Wait about 2 minutes and then turn the system back on.
■ Use another cup or glass and make a drink.
■ If the cup protection shut-off is triggered again or the main dispenser moves to the rim of the cup or glass again, contact Miele Technical Service.
The cup protection shut-off is malfunctioning. The main dispenser moves to the rim of the cleaning container, jamming it in.If the cleaning container is very close to or touching the back panel, the automatic dispenser adjustment will not detect it properly.
■ Move the cleaning container further forward.

Miele coffee machine fault codes

- The brew unit cannot be positioned correctly, or it is dirty
and the coffee cannot be processed.
- Check whether you can remove the brew unit (see
"Cleaning and care – Brew unit").
- Clean the brew unit if it can be removed (see "Cleaning
and care – Brew unit")

Push the coffee ejector of the brew unit into the correct
position (see diagram).
- Push the waste container and the water container back in
the machine. Do not insert the brew unit. Close the door
and switch the machine on with the On/Off sensor.

The brew unit motor will be initialised.
-When "Insert the brew unit" appears in the display, open
the door and put all the parts back in the machine. Then
close the door.

If the brew unit cannot be removed:
-Switch the machine off with the On/Off sensor. Wait for approx. 2 minutes before switching it back on again.
Fault 227 to Fault
230,
Fault 233
There is a fault with the automatic spout adjustment.
-Confirm the message with OK.
Automatic spout adjustment during drink preparation is
deactivated as long as the appliance remains switched on.
You can continue to prepare drinks.
Fault 234Cup protection switch-off has been activated three times
since switching on the coffee machine. The cups or glasses
being used are not recognised by the automatic spout
adjustment.
-Use suitable drinking vessels for automatic spout
adjustment.
There is a fault with the automatic spout adjustment.
-Switch the coffee machine off with the On/Off sensor.
Wait for approx. 2 minutes before switching it back on.
"Too much ground
coffee"
There is too much ready ground coffee in the ground coffee
chute.
If more than one level scoop of ground coffee is added to the
coffee chute, the brew unit cannot process the coffee. The
ground coffee will be directed into the waste container and
the fault message will appear in the display.
-Switch the coffee machine off with the On/Off sensor.
- Remove and clean the brew unit (see "Cleaning and care –
Brew unit").
-Remove the ground coffee inside the coffee machine, e.g.
with a vacuum cleaner.
Use the coffee spoon supplied to add ground coffee to the
ground coffee chute. Add only one portion of ground coffee
to the chute.
"Push the water
container in until it
engages"
The water container is not in the correct position.
-Remove the water container and push it back in again.
This fault message also appears if the water container was
not correctly filled or fitted for descaling.
-Fill the water container to the descaling symbol (arrows in both directions)
and restart the descaling programme.
